IPL 2019: Pre-tournament Best XI for Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians

Since 2013, Mumbai Indians have created a set pattern in the points table. They have finished on top of the points table every alternate year. 2013, 2015, 2017 and it this continues, they would finish on top in 2019 as well. But that’s just a coincidence. However, the Mumbai-based franchise has what it takes to secure the top spot once again.

The 3-time IPL champions missed a playoff berth last year and that was only the 4th such incident in IPL history. Over the years, they have been one of the strongest sides. For a number of seasons, they have retained the core that has done wonders for them.

This year too, they are going in with Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Kieron Pollard, the Pandya brothers that make a formidable squad. Mumbai Indians are certainly in line for a playoff spot. It won’t be surprising if the team leaves behind the disappointment of last year and goes on to win the 4th title.

Here are the 4 IPL teams that have the best chance of qualifying for the playoffs

#4 Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR
Kolkata Knight Riders
The Kolkata-based franchise didn't get off to a great start in the IPL as they missed a playoff berth in the first 3 seasons. But fortunes turned drastically from 2011. Since then, they have made it to the playoff 6 times out of 8. Also, KKR won the IPL title twice in that duration. In the last few years, KKR has emerged as a force and one of the best sides in the league. Last year, they went in without Gautam Gambhir, who was massively responsible for their great run. A lot of people thought it would impact them adversely. But they still lived up to the expectations and finished 3rd on the points table. They were ultimately knocked out in the second qualifier by Sunrisers Hyderabad. In IPL 2019, they have more or less the similar squad that played last year. The likes of Sunil Narine, Chris Lynn, Kuldeep Yadav, Andre Russell, Dinesh Karthik provide fierce strength to the team. It will be surprising to see if they don't make it to the final four.

#2 Sunrisers Hyderabad

Manish Pandey, SRH
Manish Pandey, Sunrisers Hyderabad
In the last 3 seasons, one team that has been the most consistent is Sunrisers Hyderabad. They won their first title in 2016, finished 4th on the points table in 2017 and ended up as the runners up last year. In IPL 2018, they were defeated in the finals by Chennai Super Kings. But they were one of the favorites to win throughout the season. What made their campaign even more inspirational was the fact they were without the services of David Warner, who led them to glory in 2016. Kane Williamson captained the side in Warner's absence and boy did he do a great job. Now, Warner will be back and it only makes things better for the Orange Army. Apart from Warner and Williamson, they have Rashid Khan who is an absolute superstar in the shortest format of the game. Bhuvneshwar Kumar's experience will be valuable once again. Manish Pandey and Shakib Al Hasan are the other experienced international players who add to the strength. SRH will be the team to beat in IPL 2019.

#1 Chennai Super Kings

CSK released 3 players ahead of IPL 2019
Chennai Super Kings
CSK and playoffs, it's a love story that never seems to end. The Chennai-based franchise is the only team to qualify for the playoffs in every season it made an appearance in. They have won the title 3 times which is the joint most with Mumbai Indians. It's needless to say that CSK is a firm favorite to secure another playoff spot. After serving a 2-year suspension, the Men in Yellow returned to the league last year. They reformed the team and were even denied playing at Chepauk. The squad consisted of many players aged over 30. A few believed it was a team of oldies and didn't stand a chance. But despite all the troubles and trolls, CSK proved its might and went on to win the league with the utmost domination. When you look at the CSK squad, it's flooded with experienced internationals. Above all, MS Dhoni will be leading the side which is always the best thing that could happen for any team. With a handful of all-rounders, CSK would not just be the favorites to qualify for playoffs, but also fancy another shot at the title.
