IPL 2019 Match 6 KKR vs KXIP Highlights
Ravichandran Ashwin called the right side of the coin and invited the opposition to bat first. Mohammed Shami bowled a good first over by conceding just one run. But Sunil Narine went berserk against the debutant Varun Chakravarthy in the next over. He slammed the mystery spinner for 3 sixes and a four as the over ended with 25 runs. Chris Lynn was beginning to swing his bat too but Shami sent him packing for 10.
Another debutant for KXIP Hardus Viljoen had a good start when he removed Narine in his first over for 24. Nitish Rana and Robin Uthappa came together and kept the assault going. After the powerplay, the score reached 53/2. The duo constructed a solid stand of 110 runs for the 3rd wicket. Rana was belligerent in his approach as before getting out to Chakravarthy, he made 63 from 34 balls.
Russell’s second powerbomb in a row
Uthappa crossed the half-century mark but all eyes were on Andre Russell at the death. The stage was perfectly set up for him in the last 4 overs. Before he could get going, Shami castled him in the 17th over. But the fortune was on the batsman’s side as the umpire raised his arm to signal a no-ball. There were just 3 fielders inside the circle and Russell got a lifeline.
He didn’t need the second invitation and launched himself in the last 3 overs. The 18th and 19th overs went for 22 and 25 runs respectively. The roof at Eden had come off with his powerful striking. Before getting out in the last over, he scored 48 from 17 balls with 3 fours and 5 sixes. Due to his magnificent knock, KKR ended with a mammoth score of 218/4.
A chase in stutters
Kings XI Punjab needed a good start to chase down the big score. But they got off to the worst possible one. KL Rahul departed for just 1 in the 2nd over courtesy of Lockie Ferguson. When Chris Gayle began to open up the shoulders, Andre Russell dismissed him for 20 in the 5th over.
Mayank Agarwal attempted to up the ante as the score read 51/2 after the fielding restrictions lifted. Russell made his night even better by claiming another wicket in the form of Sarfaraz Khan for 13 in the 8th over. The game was running away from the grasp of the visitors. However, Agarwal and David Miller tried their best to keep the team in the hunt.
KXIP needed 86 runs from the last 3 overs. Agarwal, after scoring 58, fell prey to Piyush Chawla in the 16th over. It fell apart for the Men in Red as the equation got tougher and tougher. Miller’s unbeaten fifty went in vain as KKR won the match by 28 runs.
