Indian cricket fans might witness a thrilling twist in the upcoming matches as young talents Tilak Varma and Yashasvi Jaiswal are gearing up to unleash their hidden bowling prowess on the field. The revelation comes from none other than Indian bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, who believes that these rising stars could contribute with the ball in hand.
Tilak Varma, a name that has been resonating through the cricketing world lately, has been making headlines with his exceptional performances in the ongoing T20I series against West Indies. His impressive tally of 139 runs from three innings, at a staggering average of 69.50 and a blistering strike rate of 139.00, has turned heads. Notably, he marked his T20I journey with a maiden half-century during the second match of the series.
Amidst India’s recent defeats, Varma’s remarkable talent and composed demeanor have earned him praises from both fans and cricketing experts. His emergence on the international stage has sparked excitement about his future contributions in various aspects of the game.
However, the spotlight also shines on Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had an unfortunate T20I debut against West Indies. His maiden appearance saw him being dismissed for just one run in the third match of the five-game series at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. Despite this initial setback, Jaiswal has previously showcased his potential in the IPL 2023, amassing a remarkable 625 runs in 14 matches at an impressive strike rate of 163.6 and an average of 48.07.
Interestingly, both Varma and Jaiswal have an additional trick up their sleeves – the art of bowling. While their bowling records in first-class and List-A cricket might not boast significant numbers, Indian bowling coach Paras Mhambrey believes that their potential is worth exploring. Addressing the media ahead of the fourth T20I clash between India and West Indies in Florida, Mhambrey hinted that we might soon witness these young talents showcasing their bowling skills on the international stage.
“Having someone who can contribute in multiple ways is a great asset. I have closely observed Tilak and Yashasvi bowling since their U19 days. They possess the capability to evolve into proficient bowlers. The platform of international cricket offers them the chance to refine their skills. It’s exciting to have such options available. We are working on it, and we might see them bowling an over soon,” remarked Mhambrey during the press conference.
