India to host Afghanistan after the World Test Championship Final

Following the World Test Championship (WTC) championship match, Afghanistan will play a brief series in India (June 7-11) Perhaps in the second week of June, Afghanistan will fly to India to play the series there for the first time in five years. The most recent match between Afghanistan and India took place in Bangalore in 2018. It was the Afghans’ first-ever Test match. Following that Test, India and Afghanistan did not play another bilateral series and have only met during ICC competitions.

BCCI source said

“Yes, the Afghanistan Cricket Team will undertake a short tour to India in June, after World Test Championship Final (At the Oval from June 7-11),” a source in the BCCI told TOI.

Before India’s tour of the West Indies in July, the India-Afghanistan series is most likely to take place. Three ODIs, five T20Is, and two Tests are scheduled to be played in West Indies by the Men in Blue.

India has consistently backed Afghanistan even after the Taliban took control in August 2021. In the past, the BCCI has made its cricket grounds in Greater Noida, Lucknow, and Dehradun available to Afghans as well. After the Taliban forbade Afghanistan’s women’s cricket squad, Australia postponed its 2022 matchup with Afghanistan. A women’s team is required for ICC full membership. Earlier Afghanistan’s full membership in the ICC just made it through the match of 2023 after the ICC determined that its government, not the ACB, was at fault.

In November, the ACB and Taliban met with Imran Khawaja, the deputy chairman of the ICCs, and the leader of the working group twice in Doha. The working committee came to the conclusion that ACB had no authority over the Afghanistan women’s squad at that time. As of the right moment, BCCI has not brought up the Taliban’s ban on Afghanistan’s women’s team.

It will be a very interesting series as India would be tested by the Afghanistan spinners just before the World Cup while Afghanistan will be tested against a high-quality Indian pace attack and talented Indian batters.
