Despite brief stabilisation efforts by Shahidullah and Afsar Zazai, Afghanistan’s innings remained fragile. Ravi Bishnoi, with his mesmerising googly, dismissed Afsar Zazai, adding to India’s advantage. However, Shahidullah persisted and found support in captain Gulbadin Naib. Together, they constructed a resilient partnership, contributing 60 runs for the 6th wicket.

Rain Interrupts Play

Just as Afghanistan approached a score of 50, rain intervened, disrupting the game. At the point of interruption, Afghanistan’s score stood at 112 for 5 in 18.2 overs. Shahidullah was a mere run short of his half-century, while Gulbadin had contributed 27 runs from 24 balls. Subsequently, rain sporadically teased both players and umpires, preventing a resumption of play.

Match Called Off, India Clinches Gold

Regrettably, persistent rain led to the match being called off, resulting in India being awarded the gold medal without even having to bat. While an anti-climactic ending, India’s exceptional performance throughout the competition left no doubts about their deserving victory.
