If Dhoni wants to still play, that’s his call and we need to respect that says Yuvraj Singh

Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh thinks a cricketer like MS Dhoni must be given time to take the final call about his cricket career. He also backs Rishabh Pant as he believes that the mentors need to work on him.

Dhoni should be given time

Yuvraj Singh who took retirement from international cricket last year called Dhoni the most successful Indian captain in an event of ‘The Sports Movement’. He said, “I think it’s unfair to him. The guy (Dhoni) has done so much for Indian cricket. He has been the most successful Indian captain, so you got to give him time. He needs to decide when he wants to go out. He needs to take that call. If he wants to still play, that’s his call and we need to respect that.”

Yuvraj also said that it will take a lot of time to find a suitable replacement for Dhoni. Rishabh Pant needs time to go close to Dhoni. “It is unfair to compare him with MS. MS Dhoni was not made in a day. It took a few years so it will take a few years for a replacement also.”

Yuvraj supports Pant

Rishabh Pant who is already under scanner mainly due to his shot selection has the support of the veteran. Yuvi believes that the young talented batsman needs to be monitored properly according to his mindset. “How they get the best out of Pant is completely based on his character. You have to understand his psychology and then work with that. If you are going to suppress him, you won’t get the best out of him. Yes, he has been given a number of chances but how do you get the best out of him. The people monitoring him in the team — the coaches, the captain — can make a lot of difference.”

According to India’s hero of the 2011 World Cup thinks that criticizing is not a solution and Pant needs to be spoken to. “I’m very keen to see who speaks to him and helps him understand better.”
