Another step was taken towards the World Cup 2023 semifinal stage. The tournament successfully arranged 42 matches. On November 10, South Africa locked horns with Afghanistan at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It was a crucial match for Afghanistan. But ended that match on a disappointing note. They are knocked out of the World Cup.
Another win added to South Africa’s book. Initially, Afghanistan won the toss and opted to bat first. While batting first, Afghanistan gave a decent start. South African bowlers performed very well. Gerald Coetzee was outstanding. He picked up 4 wickets in 44 runs. Keshav Maharaj 2 wickets in 25 runs. Lungi Ngidi took 2 wickets in 69 runs. Andile Phehlukwayo took 1 wicket in 36 runs. They restricted the Afghan squad to 244 runs.
While batting in the second innings, South Africa gave a good start. Quinton de Kock played a valuable innings of 41 runs in 47 balls. Skipper Bavuma got out on 23 runs. Rassie van der Dussen played an excellent knock of unbeaten 76 runs. That innings dragged South Africa closer to win. Phehlukwayo remained unbeaten on 39 runs.
It was a disappointing day for Afghanistan. They couldn’t dominate the opponent. Mohammed Nabi tried well. He took 2 wickets in 35 runs. Rashid Khan took 2 wickets in 37 runs. Mujeeb Ur Rahman took 1 wicket in 51 runs. Other bowlers remained wicketless.
Gerald Coetzee Climbs to Number 3 position:
Gerald Coetzee is the Star bowler of South Africa. In the match against Afghanistan, he was in great form. He took 4 wickets in 44 runs. That was an incredible performance. Coetzee’s first wicket was Ibrahim Zadran. He picked up Zadran in 15 runs. As his second wicket, he picked up Ikram Khil. Khil got out on 12 runs. Noor Ahmed got out on 26 runs in an amazing delivery by Coetzee. Lastly, he picked up Mujeeb Ur Rahman on 8 runs as his fourth wicket of the match. His economy rate in the match was 4.40.
Keshav Maharaj Comes Up:
While South Africa was showing their bowling brilliance, Keshav Maharaj shined bright. He picked up 2 wickets in just 25 runs. That was an excellent performance. Maharaj gave the first success to the team. He picked up Afghan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz on 25 runs. That was a big wicket. After that, he took another one. He picked up Afghan skipper Hasmatullah Shahidi on 2 runs. His economy rate in this fixture was 2.50.
