Windies Announce 15-Man squad for ICC CWC 2019

Windies have recalled Andre Russell in the 15-man preliminary squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. He had last played an ODI in July 2018. The superlative form in the Indian Premier League has aided his selection. Even though he is struggling with a few niggles, the all-rounder has assured the selectors of being fit by the time the World Cup arrives.

Jason Holder will lead the side that has a good mix of experience and youth. Chris Gayle will play a major role after a successful IPL and the heroics in the last ODI series at home against England. However, the selectors have overlooked Kieron Pollard and Sunil Narine. Devendra Bishoo also misses out.

Before the World Cup, Windies will play a tri-series in Ireland with Bangladesh being the third team. They will begin the World Cup campaign on May 31 against Pakistan at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.
