While Ben Stokes leads the way at the ICC Awards ceremony this year, a number of Indian cricketers have successfully made headlines too. Stokes gets the ‘Best Cricketer’ award

Ben Stokes had an unforgettable 2019. He first helped England win their first-ever World Cup after a stunning Super-Over and then anchored the breath-taking fourth-innings chase at Leeds during Ashes. No wonder Stokes was the highlight of the cricket world in the recently concluded year. He was expectedly named the ‘Cricketer of the year’.
Pat Cummins became the ‘Test Cricketer of the year’ while Marnus Labuschagne won the award for ‘Emerging Cricketer of the year’ for his stunning showcase throughout.

Indians at ICC Awards

For India, it was Rohit Sharma and Deepak Chahar who kept the flag high at the occasion. With seven ODI hundred to his name, Rohit Sharma was the most deserving candidate to win the ‘ODI Cricketer of the Year’ Award. Rohit scored 1490 runs in 28 ODIs at an average of 57.30 in 2019. Deepak Chahar’s spell of 3.2-0-7-6 against Bangladesh got the ‘T20I performance of the year’ award. The spell included a hattrick.

Virat Kohli came a long way to win the ‘ICC Spirit of Cricket Award’ for his gesture in the World Cup group match against Australia where he asked the crowd to cheer for Steve Smith instead of abusing him. The Test team of the year has Mayank Agarwal, Virat Kohli among Indians whereas the ODI team has Rohit Sharma, Kohli, Kuldeep Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah. Both teams are being led by the Indian captain.
