I would definitely be playing the IPL for Chennai Super Kings says Ambati Rayudu

Ambati Rayudu’s retirement from all forms and levels made headlines in early July. But Rayudu has now clarified that he would “definitely be playing the IPL for Chennai Super Kings” next season and continue to play white-ball cricket.

Rayudu breaks retirements

Rayudu’s retirement stunned all a month back. The 33-year-old was thought of the 4 batsmen for India in ODIs. When Indian selectors announced the World Cup squad but was left out of the main squad of 15 and named in the list of standby players. Then following Shikhar Dhawan and Vijay Shankar injuries, all obviously expected him to be called to England. But at first, Rishabh Pant and then Mayank Agarwal travelled to England whereas Mayank was not even in the standbys.

The selection committee was questioned. In fact, the episode saw Rayudu taking to social media first to sarcastically comment on the selection of Vijay Shankar. Then when Mayank was considered, he announced his retirement from all forms and levels. But now it seems Rayudu has a clarification on the same. Speaking to Time of India, he said, “I would definitely be playing the IPL for Chennai Super Kings and make a comeback into white-ball cricket. My priority now is to get back into peak fitness.”

The clarification

On being asked about his “emotional decision” he has termed it a reaction out of but his disappointment at missing out on the World Cup.”I wouldn’t say it was an emotional decision, because I worked very hard for the World Cup in the last four years,” he said. “You are bound to be disappointed and I felt it was time. The decision that I took was not because of rejection or anything else. You work towards something and when you don’t get it, you feel it’s time to move on.”

Currently, the player is in Chennai playing the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association’s one-day league for Grand Slam.
