I don’t want to Blame Greg Chappell Alone: Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly, the current BCCI president often spoke about the injustice he faced in his career during Greg Chappell’s coaching. He always mentioned that he knew what he capable of doing even when he was dropped from the team. Sourav Ganguly, in a recent interview with a Bengali daily once again spoke about the phase and said that he had never lost confidence as he had played world-class bowlers at the 22 yards.

Sourav Ganguly on never losing confidence

In 2005, Sourav Ganguly was removed from captaincy of the Indian cricket and then was dropped from the squad. One of the most controversial phases of Indian cricket saw the tussle between Sourav Ganguly and then coach Greg Chappell. Sourav Ganguly could never accept whatever happened and always spoke about it in public time to time. Recently once again he revealed to Sangbad Pratidin that he never had lost confidence because of the kind of bowlers he had to face in the middle. Sourav Ganguly recalled, “I didn’t lose confidence. I knew I’ll score runs if they play me. My coach didn’t go out in the middle to play Wasim, McGrath, and Shoaib, I did that and managed to score runs against them. If I had done that successfully for 10 years then I can do that again provided if get the opportunity.” He added, “Yes, I was very upset when was I dropped from the side but never lost confidence, not even for a second” added Ganguly.

No just Chappell to blame

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly then opined that he does not want to the coach alone for the ‘injustice’. “I don’t want to blame Greg Chappell alone. There is no doubt about the fact that he was the one who started it. He suddenly sends an email against me to the board which gets leaked too. Does something like this happen?”

One of the greatest Indian captains explained further, “A cricket team is like a family. There can differences of opinion, misunderstandings in the family but that should be sorted out with dialogue. You are the coach, if you believed that I should play in a certain manner then come and tell me. When I returned as a player he had specified the same things then why not earlier?”
