“I believe Axar Patel should be appointed the captain of Delhi Capitals”: Sunil Gavaskar

Indian Opener and Legend of the game Sunil Gavaskar wants David Warner to be dropped from the Captaincy of Delhi Capitals. The opener feels that he must be replaced by Indian seasoned campaigner Axar Patel.

At the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Monday, Delhi Capitals defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven runs in Match 34 to win their second consecutive game of IPL 2023. Axar Patel was in fine form. SRH was unable to accomplish their target of 145 runs, reaching 137/6 in 20 overs. In the first innings, DC scored 144/9 in 20 overs thanks to Manish Pandey’s 34 runs off 27 balls. Axar, who was also hitting well, scored 34 runs off of 34 pitches while slamming four fours. Washington Sundar grabbed three wickets for SRH, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar claimed two dismissals.

“I believe Axar Patel should be appointed the captain of Delhi Capitals. He is an honest player. He’s in a good rhythm. The Indian team can benefit from him being named the captain of the franchise and performing well. All these things should be done in a long run.”

With six wickets in seven games, Axar Patel is Delhi’s second-highest wicket-taker this season. With 182 runs in seven games, he is also the second-highest run scorer for his team. Axar also mentioned in his post-game remarks that his bowling performance had made him happier than his batting.

Axar Patel said, “2/21 since I scored 34 in 34 so the two wickets were more important. I ordered for coffee and I left the glass like that, when three wickets fell in one over. Pandey and I discussed we need to take it as deep as possible.”
