How Kartik Tyagi Pulled Off a Two-Run Victory from the Jaws of Defeat

Kartik Tyagi went on to win the thriller for Rajasthan Royals against Punjab Kings in the 32nd match of Indian Premier League 2021. He defended 4 runs, took 2 wickets, and claimed a rare win in the history of the league.

Batting first, Rajasthan Royals set a target of 186 for Punjab Kings. Thanks to some brilliant batting performances of the top and middle-order batsmen, Punjab Kings almost chased it down. Nicholas Pooran (32) and Aiden Markram (25) were going strong and set in the middle to win the match for Punjab Kings in the final over. They required only 4 off 6 and the ball was handed over to Kartik Tyagi. Even the biggest fan of Rajasthan Royals did not expect the youngster to defend mere 4 runs in the final over. But what happened next was nothing short of miracle.

IPL 2021: Here’s the Reason Why Chris Gayle Is Not Playing Today IPL Match 32 Against Rajasthan Royals

Kartik Tyagi bowled a full toss for no run followed by a single which meant the Royals needed 3 off 4. Tyagi dismissed Pooran but still the chances looked slim for Rajasthan Royals. His next delivery once again was a dot ball. on the fifth ball of the over he took another wicket and Deepak Hooda had to leave for a duck. Punjab Kings needed 2 runs from last ball to take it to the Super Over. And, Punjab’s reputation made all prepared for the same. But Tyagi did not lose his track at all; he once again delivered a dot ball and won the match for Rajasthan Royals by 2 runs.

No wonder, Kartik Tyagi was the Player-of-the-Match. Thanks to him, Rajasthan Royals have moved up to fifth place in the points table followed by Punjab Kings at seventh. This was only the second time a bowler was able to defend less than six runs in the final over of an IPL game. Munaf Patel had done this before in a match between Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians in 2009. The Royals had won the match too.
