Here’s why the Aussies are wearing a black armband today

The Australian team took the fans by surprise when they walked onto the field wearing black bands around their arm at the start of the second day of the fourth Test Match. However, when they came to know about the reason behind it, fans were taken aback with grief.

Why is the Australian team wearing black armbands?

The Australian team is wearing the black armbands as a symbol to honor their captain Pat Cummins’ departed mother. Maria Cummins, the mother of Pat Cummins, passed away peacefully last night after battling a prolonged illness.

Coach Andrew McDonald gathered the players to deliver the sad news and also urged them to wear black bands to honor the departed soul. Despite the difficult circumstances, Coach McDonald urged the players to focus on the upcoming match and to play with Maria in their hearts.

As the players took the field that day, they did so with heavy hearts but also with a renewed sense of purpose. They were determined to honor Maria’s memory by playing their best cricket and by carrying on her legacy of strength, courage, and positivity.

Condolences Extended

Earlier today morning, Cricket Australia had informed through a tweet about the passing away of Cummins’ mother. “We are deeply saddened at the passing of Maria Cummins overnight. On behalf of Australian Cricket, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Pat, the Cummins family, and their friends. The Australian Men’s team will today wear black armbands as a mark of respect.”, read the tweet.

BCCI had also extended condolences and had prayed for the well-being of Cummins’ family through a tweet. Their tweet read, “On behalf of Indian Cricket, we express our sadness at the passing away of Pat Cummins mother. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family in this difficult period.”

Cummins’ mother had been struggling with breast cancer for a long time. The Australian captain had flown away to be with his family after the end of the second Test Match in Delhi last month. Cricadium family extends are deepest condolences with Cummins and his family. We wish that the family finds the strength to fight these tough times.
