The Indian men’s cricket team has been promoted to the Super Eight stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 after playing and winning 3 matches in the group stage of the tournament. The team is now in a match against Afghanistan, and the players can be seen wearing black arm bands in the Super Eight match.
India is set to play a match against Afghanistan today at the Kensington Oval Stadium in Barbados. Team India was recently hailed by experts as the whole team showed up to a practice session which was not even mandatory.
Men in blue sport black arm-bands
Team India has sported black arm bands that are visible as a part of their clothes in today’s match. The reason for this, is equally heart warming and saddening.
The men in blue have worn black arm bands in honour of former India pacer David Johnson, who passed away earlier today in Bengaluru. He was 52 years old.
Johnson played in two Test matches in 1996, taking three wickets, and was also a part of tour of South Africa but got to play only in the first Test, taking the wickets of Herschelle Gibbs and Brian McMillan. The young India team has won many hearts with this respectful gesture of theirs.

(Playing XI): Rohit Sharma(c), Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant(w), Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah
