Veteran commentator Harsha Bhogle has denied all rumors suggesting the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) banned him from the Kolkata Knight Riders vs Gujarat Titans IPL 2025 clash at Eden Gardens. He clarified that he did not skip the game due to any ban but because it was not on his commentary schedule.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Bhogle wrote: “People are drawing all kinds of conclusions on why I wasn’t at Eden Gardens. It wasn’t on the list of matches I was down to do.” He also said, “I was given two games in Kolkata this year, and I did the first.” Bhogle further revealed, “An illness in the family prevented me from being at the second.”
The popular broadcaster expressed his frustration over the rumors. “If someone had merely asked, this wouldn’t have become a thing,” he said. He explained that IPL commentary assignments are decided before the tournament starts. His absence had nothing to do with CAB or any disagreements.
Despite Bhogle’s clarification, CAB has reportedly written to the BCCI, asking them to keep Bhogle and Simon Doull out of commentary during KKR’s home games. This followed criticism of the Eden Gardens pitch during earlier games.
A CAB official told PTI, “Bhogle and Doull are no longer part of the commentary team for KKR’s home matches.” However, the same official hinted that both could return if Eden Gardens hosts Qualifier 2 or the IPL final.
Bhogle did not comment directly on the pitch debate but clarified that no official banned him. He urged fans and journalists to seek facts before drawing conclusions.
Meanwhile, Simon Doull also spoke about the issue during a Cricbuzz segment. He supported KKR and questioned the pitch conditions. “If the curator won’t listen, move the franchise,” Doull said. He explained that the franchise should get surfaces that suit their strengths. “The curator’s job is not to judge the game,” he added. “It is to produce what the franchise needs.”
His blunt statements sparked mixed reactions on social media. Some supported his honesty, while others said he disrespected pitch officials.
The BCCI has not issued a statement on CAB’s alleged request. But Bhogle’s direct clarification has put to rest most rumors. He missed the game for personal reasons, not because of any restriction.
As the IPL 2025 season continues, fans can expect the action—on and off the field—to stay intense.
