Hardik Pandya reveals the reason why Yash Dayal has not been a part of the playing 11 after Rinku Singh onslaught

Yash Dayal has not been a part of the playing eleven since he was hit by 5 sixes in one over by Rinku Singh. There were many speculations about why Dayal was dropped after the first game. Yash Dayal’s “condition is still not good enough” to play, according to GT captain Hardik Pandya, more than a month after that fatal day against KKR.

Sometimes, cricket can be harsh. Yash Dayal had to learn this the hard way. Since getting struck for five consecutive sixes by Kolkata Knight Riders batsman Rinku Singh when 28 runs were needed off the final five balls in an IPL 2023 match, the left-arm pacer for the Gujarat Titans has encountered an unforeseen setback in his cricket career. Dayal, one of GT’s discoveries during their championship-winning season the previous year, not only lost his spot in the XI but also saw a significant decline in his mental and physical condition.

Dayal’s “condition is still not good enough” to hit the pitch, and it might take him a long time to make a comeback, according to Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya, more than a week after that fatal day at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Following Rinku’s onslaught, Dayal dropped roughly 7-8 kg due to illness, according to Hardik, who also mentioned this following GT’s convincing victory over Mumbai Indians on Tuesday.

Hardik Pandya said

“I can’t confirm that (on his chances of Yash Dayal playing again this season),” Hardik said when asked about Dayal during the post-match show on Star Sports. “He fell ill and lost 7-8 kilos after that match. There was a spread of viral infection during that period and also due to the pressure he had faced, his condition is presently not good enough to take the field. Someone’s loss is someone’s gain at the end of the day. It is going to take a long time before we see him on the field,” Hardik added.

Last year, Dayal took 11 wickets in 9 innings for the defending champions. However, the 25-year-old seemed off-kilter this year. The left-arm bowler played three games, failed to take a single wicket, and gave up runs at a 15.83 economy rate.

Notably, Dayal’s family also suffered consequences from the Kolkata Knight Riders game; Yash’s mother stopped eating for a few days after witnessing Rinku Singh drag him to the cleaners. However, his father persevered and supported his son in making a successful return.

“These are the moments sport is made up of. Even in life, you come across failures, it’s important to stand up stronger,” Chandrapal, Yash’s father, had told PTI.
