In a pretty one sided encounter, India emerged victorious against arch-rivals Pakistan in the ICC World Cup 2023, securing their eighth World Cup win against Pakistan by 7 wickets. This resounding victory not only thrilled the fans but also catapulted India to the top of the points table, displacing New Zealand from the coveted position.

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill provided India with a strong start in their pursuit of a 192-run target. Rohit Sharma, in particular, exhibited his class with a blistering innings, falling just short of a century, as Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi dismissed him for a brilliant 85 runs. The spectators at Ahmedabad acknowledged Rohit’s exceptional performance with a standing ovation.

Following Rohit’s departure, KL Rahul joined Shreyas Iyer in the chase, ensuring that the momentum remained firmly with India. Shreyas Iyer’s explosive batting display, culminating in a well-deserved half-century, took India across the finish line.

On the bowling front, India had earlier dominated the game, orchestrating a collapse in Pakistan’s innings. The Babar Azam-led squad appeared to be on track until the 30th over, but Mohammed Siraj’s crucial breakthrough ended the partnership between Azam and Mohammad Rizwan. Pakistan’s batting order subsequently crumbled, resulting in their being bowled out for a meager 191 runs.

Indian bowlers, including Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah, applied relentless pressure, dismantling Pakistan’s middle order. Yadav dismissed Saud Shakeel and Iftikhar Ahmed, while Bumrah claimed the crucial wickets of Muhammad Rizwan and Shadab Khan.

In a pivotal moment, Mohammed Siraj‘s dismissal of Pakistan’s skipper, Babar Azam, further swung the momentum in India’s favor, breaking the partnership between Azam and Rizwan.

As the match unfolded, India’s dominance in both batting and bowling was evident. With the victory over Pakistan, they now occupy the top spot in the World Cup 2023 points table, much to the delight of Indian cricket fans. This victory not only showcased India’s prowess in the game but also added another chapter to the historic and intense rivalry between the two cricketing giants.
