“Good signs for Indian Cricket”: Rohit Sharma lauds Yashasvi Jaiswal after his splendid hundred

The host team chased down an outstanding total in the 100th IPL game, which was nothing short of remarkable. Suryakumar, Cam Green, Tilak Varma, and Tim David of the Mumbai Indians were adamant about securing the victory despite losing the wicket of Rohit early on. Ashwin’s another economical spell during the opening 10 overs of MI’s innings caused them to initially struggle, but Suryakumar Yadav’s 20-run over against Kuldeep Sen marked a turning point. He used some of his signature strokes to display his T20I skill, but a stunning catch by Sandeep Sharma prevented him from putting the game away. Tim David nevertheless made an incredible cameo, smashing 45 off 14 balls with five sixes, to give MI an important victory.

Despite the outcome, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s first IPL century was the game’s talking point. The left-hander, who was 21 years and 123 days old, became the fourth-youngest player to ever register a hundred in the IPL after reaching his century off 53 balls with a four off Riley Meredith. The youngest centurion in the IPL is Manish Pandey (19 years, 253 days), who is followed in age by Rishabh Pant (20 years, 218 days), and Devdutt Padikkal (20 years, 289 days).

Rohit Sharma talks about Jaiswal

Rohit Sharma highly praised the Mumbai lad and wished that he keeps batting for the team. He said that this is an encouraging side for Indian Cricket going forward. “Good for him, good for Indian cricket, and good for RR as well,” Rohit said.

The Indian captain also asked the youngster about how does he generate so much power while hitting the strokes.

“watched him last year, this year he has taken his game to a new level. I asked him where all that power is coming from, he says he is spending time at the gym, he’s timing them really well.”

Jaiswal was awarded as the man of the match for his brilliant hundred. He was a happy man as he received many awards at the presentation.

Jaiswal post-match interview

“When I scored the century, I didn’t know that ball had gone to the boundary. So when that happened, I just thanked God for the opportunity, I always had this dream, wanted to work on the process and work hard. Results will follow. I keep myself mentally strong and work on my fitness and diet. Organised my life well outside of cricket. I enjoy playing the straight drive and cover drive, that gives me a lot of confidence. Thank you so much, everyone for the support!!”
