Geoorge Bailey hints playing Boland ahead of Hazlewood in WTC Final

In the playing XI for the World Test Championship, Australia’s chief selector George Bailey has suggested that Scott Boland might be chosen before Josh Hazlewood. The Australian management will be puzzling about the fast bowling lineup they would use against India before the scheduled match on June 7.

The team is supported by the exceptional skill of Scott Boland, Michael Neser, and Cameron Green in addition to mainstays like Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Hazlewood. Bailey stated that they will try to be consistent in their selection prior to the Test match.

Bailey told Sydney Morning Herald

“The way we are looking at that is it’s a culmination of what’s been a pretty consistent two years,” selection chair George Bailey has said. “It’s been a pretty similar team for a long period of time. We are confident that’s a team and that’s a make-up that can have success,” Bailey said.

Due to an Achilles injury, Hazlewood was unable to see the entire India vs. Australia Border Gavaskar Trophy match. Boland only participated in one game during the series and returned empty-handed from Nagpur, where Australia defeated. Despite Australia losing the game, Boland performed well in spin-friendly circumstances.

The Australian pace attack would be better suited to the English conditions, and Boland has a strong case for inclusion in the starting XI after taking 28 wickets in 7 games.

Hazlewood added to the discussion by claiming that he is in good health.

“My fitness is pretty good,” Hazlewood said. “It is just a matter of ticking off every session from here until that date basically,” Hazlewood has said earlier.

Australia Squad

Australia: Pat Cummins (captain), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Marcus Harris, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Josh Inglis, Todd Murphy, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, David Warner.
