Gautam Gambhir Returns Home

Temporarily During Australia Tour, India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir will return home briefly during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

Following India’s remarkable 295-run victory in Perth, Gambhir decided to take a short leave due to personal reasons.

However, he is expected to rejoin the squad before the pink-ball Test in Adelaide, beginning on December 6.

In Gambhir’s absence, the team’s support staff, including assistant coaches Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate, will lead training sessions.

Bowling coach Morne Morkel and fielding coach T. Dilip will also provide guidance during this period.

India is scheduled to play a two-day practice match against the Prime Minister’s XI on November 30 at Manuka Oval in Canberra.

This game will give skipper Rohit Sharma, who recently joined the squad after paternity leave, an opportunity to prepare for the second Test.

“And just during the lunch break here at the nets, we’ve got captain of India Rohit Sharma, who’s just arrived in the country,” Warner said on Fox Cricket.

“He is looking nice and sharp against his fellow countrymen here in the nets. We’ve got a few of the Indian fast bowlers bowling towards the captain ahead of the pink ball Test match starting the 6th of December in Adelaide. As we just see there Mukesh Kumar sending down a nice delivery. But it’s great to see the captain here and we’re looking forward to seeing him back out on the park here on Australian soil,” he added

His condition will be reassessed in the coming days, and a final decision will be made regarding his participation in the Adelaide Test.

Meanwhile, in Gill’s absence, Devdutt Padikkal was included in the squad and batted at No. 3 in Perth.

With Rohit Sharma back in the team, KL Rahul might move to No. 3 if Gill remains unavailable.

The Indian team aims to maintain its momentum in the series, with strong contributions from both seasoned and new players.

Gambhir’s return before the second Test will bolster the squad as they gear up for the challenges ahead.
