Ganguly and Dravid join hands for NCA

The BCCI president Sourav Ganguly reached Bangalore on Wednesday to meet the NCA director Rahul Dravid. Ganguly was seen getting out of his car and going inside the OCA around 1.30 PM in Bangalore.

Ganguly and Dravid meet

Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid made their Test debut together with the same Lord’s Test in 1996 and went on to create some golden moments for Indian cricket. Even when Ganguly was the captain, Dravid was his deputy and both made the roadmap of Indian cricket together back in 2000. Now, these two once again are coming up together for the betterment of Indian cricket as the meeting is about working on the future roadmap of National Cricket Academy.

Interestingly, Ganguly’s former teammate VVS Laxman was the first among the ex-cricketers to raise the issue of the academy last week. Laxman said, “If I have to make one wish to Sourav, it’s just about how he can support, how he can revive the NCA. The greatness of the Indian team is its bench strength. I saw the South African team and it was the most depleted South African team I have seen. It’s because their domestic structure is not strong. Through the NCA, you can produce future champions.”

The meeting agenda

Now it looks like that Ganguly is keen to fulfil Laxman’s wish along with his long-time friend.

The academy was established in 2000 to nurture the young talents with the potential to represent India in the international arena. But eventually, it became a rehab centre for the injured players of the national team and India A team. Now after taking charge of the BCCI, Ganguly is looking forward to converting the National Cricket Academy (NCA) into a Centre of Excellence — a state-of-the-art facility, designated to be a finishing school for leading young talents.

After becoming the head of the NCA, Rahul Dravid already made some plans on the same line. Dravid will be sharing his idea with Ganguly in this meeting. The Academy’s chief operating officer (COO) Tufan Ghosh, the BCCI secretary Jay Shah and treasurer Arun Singh Dhumal are expected to be present in the meeting as well.
