Dubai to host Asia Cup 2020 confirms Sourav Ganguly

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly declared the venue for next Asia Cup. Just a few days ahead of the Asian Cricket Council meeting, Ganguly informed that Dubai would be hosting the Asia Cup 2020.

Ganguly declares the neutral venue

Pakistan was the designated host for the 2020 edition of the Asia Cup. But Indian cricket board was not ready to send the cricketers to Pakistan. According to the BCCI, Indians did not have any problem with Pakistan hosting the tournament but they demanded a neutral venue. India and Pakistan last played a bilateral series in 2012-13 when Pakistan visited India. The Asia Cup which is played every two years, has not been hosted by Pakistan since 2008. The last edition was hosted in the UAE. Since 2013 India and Pakistan only met in the major ICC tournaments due to political unrest between the two neighbours.

As expected now the situation is that Pakistan will play the tournament and it will be held in Dubai. Just before leaving for the Asian Cricket Council meeting scheduled to be held on March 3, Ganguly told the reporters at the Eden Gardens, “Asia Cup will be held in Dubai and both India and Pakistan will play.”

Speaking about the two national sides busy in playing World Cup (women) and a Test series, Ganguly congratulated the women and sounded optimistic for the men. Harmanpreet Kaur Indian women team became the first one to make to the semi-final after beating New Zealand in Melbourne. Ganguly said, “They are playing some fantastic cricket and have qualified. Nobody is favourites in a world tournament. They are a good side, let’s see where they finish.”

On the other hand, Virat Kohli’s Team India was poorly defeated by the hosts New Zealand in the first match of the two-match Test series in Wellington. While asked about the same, Ganguly hoped that they would bounce back soon in the second Test in Churchgate.”They have come back before. I’m sure they will bounce back again. There’s still one Test remaining.”
