Dhawan’s injury alters plan for the team

Shikhar Dhawan’s battle with injury continues. He had to leave Indian’s World Cup campaign after the Australia match. Now again during the recently concluded Australia series, he hurt himself. The scans were not so impressive and so finally he was kept out of the series in New Zealand.

This whole episode has definitely forced the management to change some plans which Kohli explained in the pre-series conference, “It (Dhawan’s injury) will certainly alter a few plans for us. In the one-day game, I think we’ll have to think of sticking to the same as what we did in Rajkot. Have another guy at the top and let KL just express himself at that position where he played really well. In T20 cricket, of course, the dynamics change a little bit more because we do have lower-order batsmen who have done well.”

KL needs to be utilized based on the format

While talking about options Kohli once again mentioned about KL’s exclusion in the team as a keeper-batsman. Kohli understands the change of dynamics in the shortest format of the game and wants to utilize KL Rahul accordingly at the top. “In T20 cricket, obviously the dynamics change a little bit more because we do have lower-order batsmen who have done well. We have a few more options there in terms of solidifying that spot and probably let KL bat at the top.”

Kohli kept on praising KL saying, “He’s open to accepting any kind of role, whatever the team wants. He is a total team man and you can tell the way he keeps as well. He is always looking for an opportunity and looking to make a play. He’s not nervous about it,”
