Dhawan in focus as Gayle ready to roar

Team India is ready to return to the format that gave them heartbreak a while back. Virat and co. will be facing West Indies in the three-match ODI series starting from August 8 after a debacle at World Cup 2019. Shikhar Dhawan who had to return from the campaign due to injury would be ready for a comeback.

Back to roar

Shikhar Dhawan makes a comeback in the 50- over format where he is the third-best Indian player after skipper Kohli and his deputy Rohit Sharma. With 17 hundred in 130 ODIs, Dhawan is one of the mainstays of Indian batting line up. This was evident in the recently concluded World Cup. India’s campaign got a huge blow once Shikhar Dhawan was out of action followed by his finger injury. The balance of the team was lost; KL Rahul was shifted to the opening position and India kept searching for a suitable Number 4 bat till the semi-final against New Zealand. India’s unstable middle-order looked totally out of track once Dhawan was out.

With Dhawan partnering Rohit in the opening slot, Rahul, in all likelihood is going back to bat at Number 4. Dhawan played two matches and scored 125 runs with the highest being 117 runs against the mighty Australians. The focus for him will be to begin where he left and bring the balance back to the squad.

Some new faces, just like the T20I series will be in focus for India as well. On the other hand, West Indies will try to bounce back with the dangerous Chris Gayle back in the squad. This is Gayle’s last ODI series and so one can only expect the best from him!
