South African legend Dale Steyn did not find a spot in South Africa’s T20I squad for the tour to India. Steyn who recently retired from Test cricket took a dig at selectors for ignoring his in the shortest format of the game.

The story

Steyn took retirement from Test cricket a while back with the intention to boost his limited-over cricket career. Now the fact the selectors did not even consider him for the same irked Steyn. He later took to social media to show his views on the same. He also made it clear that he had made himself available for the selection. He posted, “I did… Obviously lost my number in the reshuffling of coaching staff,” Steyn tweeted. He also made sarcastic tweets and apologized to Indian skipper and a billion followers. His tweet read, “Apologies to Virat and a billion people for thinking they not”.

The back story

The fast bowler Steyn has represented South Africa in 44 T20Is, picking up 61 wickets at an average of 17.50 and an economy rate of 6.79. His retirement speech clearly mentioned how he wanted to focus more on ODIs and T20Is. But he didn’t forget to show his gratitude to Test cricket. He said, “Today I walk away from a format of the game I love so much. In my opinion Test cricket is the best version of this game. It tests you mentally, physically, emotionally. It’s terrible to consider never playing another Test again but what’s more terrifying is the thought of never playing again at all. So I will be focusing on ODIs and T20s for the rest of my career to maximise my full potential and ensure my longevity in this sport.”
No wonder for a senior player like him who announced retirement from the longer format with a particular aim, this treatment is painful and humiliating as well.
