Delhi Capitals players just went through a traumatising experience ahead of their game against the Kolkata Knight Riders on 20th April. As reported by several media outlets, it has been learnt that a theft has taken place in the Delhi camp as a substantial amount of cricketing gear has been stolen. The theft of Delhi Capitals’ cricket equipment has sent shockwaves throughout the Indian Premier League (IPL) community. The news, which broke out in the early hours of April 19, has left the team’s players, management, and support staff in a state of disbelief and dismay.
What was stolen?
The theft of the Delhi Capitals’ cricket equipment seems to be a well-planned heist, as it has been revealed that not only were the players’ bats stolen, but also their pads, shoes, thigh-pads, and gloves. In total, sixteen bats were taken from the team’s kit bags, leaving the players without their essential cricketing gear just hours before their match against Kolkata Knight Riders.
The incident occurred as the team landed in Delhi after their IPL league game against Royal Challengers Bangalore the previous day. The theft is believed to have taken place during the flight from Bangalore to Delhi, highlighting the vulnerability of the players’ belongings during air travel.
Among the stolen equipment are three bats belonging to skipper David Warner, two belonging to all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, three belonging to wicketkeeper-batsman Phil Salt, and five belonging to the promising youngster Yash Dhull. The value of each bat, especially those of foreign players, is estimated to be around a lakh rupees each, making this theft a significant financial loss for the players and the team.
The loss of their equipment is a major setback for the Delhi Capitals team, as each player has specific preferences when it comes to their bats and other gear. The players will now have to adjust to using new equipment, which may not be as comfortable or familiar to them, adding an extra layer of pressure to their performance on the field.
