Delhi Capitals co-owner Ruchir Grandhi snapped with former Indian captain Saurav Ganguly at the WPL

Delhi Capitals convincingly defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore in their opener at the Women’s Premier League yesterday. The team triumphed over Bangalore in all three aspects of the game and looked like the most balanced team as compared to their 4 other competitors.

Supporting the Delhi Capitals in their inaugural game from the stands was Ruchir Grandhi, the co-owner of the franchise. Ruchir was spotter in the stands wearing the usual red and blue of the Capitals uniform, occasionally cheering his team every now and then.

The Delhi Capitals’ Twitter handle posted pictures of Ruchir in the stands with the former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly. Having stepped down as the President of BCCI last year, Ganguly was attending the game as an enthusiastic cricket fan. Ganguly was also snapped with other senior members of the Delhi Capitals management.

The franchise had a dream debut at the WPL yesterday. Capitals openers Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning put up 162 for the first wicket in their first outing together. Owing to that, and a little cameo by Marizane Kapp in the death overs, Delhi were able to put a mammoth target of 223 for Bangalore to chase down.

In response, RCB could only manage to score 163 in their 20 overs. A brilliant bowling performance by ‘Player of the Match’ Tara Norris, who picked up figures of 5 for 29 in her 4 overs, constantly made sure that RCB could never get ahead of the Capitals. Alice Capsey also seemed impressive as she picked up 2 for 10 in her 2 overs.

Capitals will play Warriorz at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai tomorrow. Warriorz are also coming after a win against the Gujarat Giants, who have now lost two games in a row.
