The IPL 2025 mega auction has kicked off with much anticipation, and this time, it’s special.
For the first time in IPL history, the auction is being held outside India, at the Abady Al Johar Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The arena, with a seating capacity of 15,000, has set the stage for a high-stakes bidding war.
This two-day event, happening once every three years, will determine the final rosters for all 10 franchises.
The Auction Atmosphere in Jeddah
The IPL 2025 auction’s shift to Saudi Arabia is a landmark event in itself.
The city of Jeddah provides a fresh setting for the high-energy bidding process.
The 10 franchises are eagerly competing to finalize their squads, and the stakes are high with 577 players in the fray.
Among them, 367 are Indian players, while 210 hail from various cricketing nations.
A few notable additions to the pool include Jofra Archer, Saurabh Netravalkar, and Hardik Tamore, expanding the player pool from the originally planned 574.
With 204 available slots, including 70 for overseas players, each franchise must carefully assess its needs.
At the end of the auction, each team will need to assemble a squad of at least 18 players, balancing talent and strategy.

Kolkata Knight Riders Sign Anrich Nortje for ₹6.5 Crore
Anrich Nortje has been bought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for ₹6.5 crore in IPL 2025. The bidding war was between KKR and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), with LSG withdrawing at ₹6.5 crore. Nortje’s speed and bounce make him a great fit for Eden Gardens’ pitch.
Nortje is known for his impressive pace, consistently bowling over 150 kph, and deadly yorkers. He has taken 180 wickets in 142 T20 games, maintaining a solid economy rate of 7.6. His aggressive approach makes him one of the fiercest bowlers worldwide.
Anrich Nortje’s IPL journey began in 2019 with KKR, but he was sidelined due to injury. In 2020, Delhi Capitals (DC) signed him as an injury replacement for Chris Woakes. He immediately impressed with his speed, helping DC reach the final and taking 22 wickets that season.
Although injuries limited his appearances in 2021 and 2022, Nortje still made an impact. In 2024, he returned to form with Delhi Capitals, but KKR has now secured him for the 2025 season.
At KKR, Nortje will partner with Harshit Rana in the pace attack, strengthening their bowling lineup.

Archer’s return strengthens RR’s bowling attack, as they look forward to another successful season. Archer’s pace and skills in the death overs make him a valuable asset to the Royals. His past success with the franchise makes this acquisition significant for their future campaigns.
Other notable deals at the auction included Shreyas Iyer’s record deal with Punjab Kings for ₹26.75 Crore. Additionally, Rishabh Pant became the most expensive player ever, sold for ₹27 Crore to Lucknow Super Giants.
