After 13 franchise staff including two players tested coronavirus positive last week, the decision of Suresh Raina came as a huge blow to the side. Raina one of the leading IPL scorers of all time has been a mainstay for CSK since the beginning. While few reported about the balcony issue and COVID-19 scare, a report of death of Raina’s uncle was speculated as the reason of his exit too. Meanwhile amid all the buzz, N Srinivasan the team owner was quoted by leading media where he criticised Raina for the latter’s attitude.
Fans who were already upset with the decision of Raina did not find like the way he was criticised by Srinivasan. They took to social media, criticized the franchise, and reminded them about the huge contribution of Raina behind the success CSK in IPL.
Clarification came from CSK owner
In less than 24 hours former BCCI president Srinivasan clarified his words on Times of India. He said, “When I said ‘cricketers are like prima donnas’, it wasn’t in a negative sense. A prima donna is the lead singer in an opera. Similarly, cricketers are always at the forefront of an exercise like this.” Claiming that his quote was “taken out of context” Srinivasan said, “These boys, they’re family. They’ve been family for over a decade now.”
He further praised Raina and opined Raina’s “contribution to the Chennai Super Kings franchise is second to none and it is unfortunate that people are trying to put two and two together to drive a wedge”. He further added the franchise will understand Raina’s current situation and “will always stand by him and he has our complete support during these times of distress”.
