The second game of today’s doubleheader went underway between Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants. Winning the toss, David Warner decided to bowl first. LSG had a slow start as openers KL Rahul and Kyle Mayers took their sweet time to settle down. However, Chetan Sakariya removed KL Rahul in the fourth over of the innings to get DC their first breakthrough of the night. In doing so, Sakariya achieved something special.

The wicket

Chetan Sakariya’s slower ball trap proved to be effective as he bowled a back-of-a-length delivery at 118 kph on the leg side to KL Rahul. Rahul fell into the trap and flicked the ball loosely towards the deep backward square leg, where Axar Patel took the catch with great delight. The ball was caught five yards inside the rope at chest height, leaving Rahul to rue his missed opportunity.

Sakariya’s delivery was cleverly disguised and caught Rahul off guard, causing him to play a loose shot. Sakariya’s variation in pace and length made it difficult for Rahul to read the ball and resulted in his dismissal. The catch by Axar Patel was taken with ease and positioned himself perfectly to ensure that he was able to take the catch comfortably.

Sakariya’s special feat

Before today’s incident, KL Rahul had faced Sakariya three times at the IPL. On all three of those occasions, KL Rahul had fallen prey to Sakariya and given his wicket. As Sakariya scalped the wicket of Rahul today, he made it 4 in 4 for himself. KL Rahul has gotten out to Chetan Sakariya every time he has faced the southpaw in the IPL.

As expected, the Twitterati wasted no time in criticizing KL Rahul for his dismissal in the match. Despite being a popular figure on social media, Rahul faced a barrage of negative comments from fans and critics alike for his recent form.
