Changes In Domestic Structure? BCCI to Decide on Sunday

The tenure of BCCI’s Ombudsman and ethics officer Justice DK Jain will end in this month. The Apex Council member will meet on Sunday to take a final call on him. The same meeting might take some important changes in domestic cricket.

The decision on Justice Jain to be taken

A one-year contract that was handed to Justice Jain in February 2019. Now as the tenure comes to an end the BCCI Apex council will either hand him an extension or add fresh names. While some reports suggest the appointment of a new ethics officer, some are in favour of retaining Justice Jain.
According to a source, “It is completely the BCCI’s prerogative to appoint the new ombudsman. But it will be a pity if he is replaced. He’s been absolutely neutral and examined each and every case of conflict on its merits.”

Justice Jain currently takes home a sum of Rs 15 lakh per month and has looked into cases of conflict in Indian cricket and violation of rules as per the newly-drafted BCCI constitution. During his period Just Jain has taken a case involving some of the biggest names of Indian cricket. While asked about the same, he opined, “I allowed the principles of natural justice to prevail. I tried to do things the best I could. Let’s see what happens.”

Ganguly to introduce changes in the domestic circuit

In the same meeting, the domestic structure of the Ranji Trophy will be discussed. There can be some changes in the domestic structure of the game which will be finalized in the Meeting. Sourav Ganguly, as the head of the BCCI technical committee, always tried to modify the module of domestic cricket in India for the betterment. Now as the BCCI president he is likely to propose a new set of change in the meeting scheduled to be held in Mumbai on February 16.

According to some sources, “Let’s see. Sourav could possibly ring in some interesting changes, especially in the way Duleep Trophy is played and perceived.”
