In the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, former India fast-bowler Ashish Nehra has attributed Rohit Sharma’s fearless and aggressive batting to the presence of Virat Kohli in the team. Rohit Sharma has been widely praised for his selfless approach, contributing significantly to India’s success in the tournament. Kohli, despite facing criticism for his strike rate, has been the leading run-scorer in the competition.
Rohit Sharma’s approach with the bat, characterized by fearlessness and aggression, has been a key element in India’s strategy. Ashish Nehra emphasized the complementary nature of the batting styles of Rohit and Kohli, stating that Rohit can play in such a manner because of the stability provided by Kohli.
“Why Rohit Sharma can play so fearless and aggressively is because Virat Kohli is there. Virat Kohli plays with his time because Rohit Sharma plays like this so both seem to be two sides of a coin, they play together for the team,” said Ashish Nehra in an interview with Cricbuzz.
Rohit Sharma, who has amassed 550 runs in the tournament at a strike rate of almost 125, is on the verge of creating history. If India secures a win in the World Cup final against Australia, Rohit Sharma will become only the third Indian captain to win the World Cup, joining the ranks of legendary captains Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni.
The final showdown between India and Australia is scheduled to take place on Sunday, November 19, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The match promises to be a historic clash, with India aiming to end their World Cup title drought since 2011.
