BCB to take a call on BCCI’s proposal of first pink-ball Test at Eden

According to the reports, Bangladesh cricket board has confirmed the proposal of the BCCI regarding pink-ball Test. But the BCB is yet to come up with a final call.

Ganguly led BCCI to make a historic proposal

An official from the BCB said on Sunday that they are still not sure of taking part in a day-night Test match at Eden Gardens during the upcoming tour of India. But they have confirmed the news of getting proposal from the Indian cricket board and will make a decision in this regard soon.

This is one of the very fast moves coming from the newly elected team of the BCCI lead by Sourav Ganguly. The former Indian captain has been vocal about his liking for this sort of Test cricket. He also revealed that Virat Kohli was ‘agreeable to it’. But interestingly this move goes against what India had done in 2018. They had rejected the chance to play a pink-ball Test in Adelaide in December that year, citing the issue of not getting accustomed with the format for a long period and could have an adjustment problem. Coincidentally, Bangladesh too had the same opinion and had turned down New Zealand’s similar such proposal due to lack of match preparation.

Who says what

BCCI is said to have made a proposal for the second Test of the upcoming two-Test series to be a pink-ball affair. BCB’s cricket operations chairman Akram Khan said, “They [BCCI] have proposed [Day-Night Test] us and we will let them know after thinking a while,” BCB cricket operation chairman Akram Khan told reporters on Sunday. We have received the letter two or three days and we will take a decision in this regard but we have not discussed about it. We will let them know about our decision within one or two days.”

Now the BCB will talk to the players and team management first before taking any decision on the same. BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury said, “At first we have to take the consent of the players and members of the team managements about it. It is totally a technical matter and we have to consider that there is preparation required to play a Test with a pink ball.”

If everything works well India will get its first pink-ball Test match.
