Bangladesh Tour Of Ireland 2020 Postponed Due To COVID-19 Pandemic

To adhere to the Government of UK, Ireland Cricket decided to postpone the upcoming series against Bangladesh in the month of May. The decision was taken mutually by both boards to safeguard public health.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the United Kingdom has been severely impacted. To measure the spread of the virus the government advised all to curb and reschedule the sporting events as other countries. Bangladesh cricket team was scheduled to travel to Ireland to play three ODIs and then four T20Is starting from May 14. But now along with the Bangladesh Cricket Board, the Ireland Cricket decided to postpone the series.

“Once the scale of the COVID-19 pandemic was understood, and the advice of both Governments and partner boards was sought, it became increasingly unlikely that this series could proceed as scheduled,” said Cricket Ireland chief executive Warren Deutrom. He also added, “We have a responsibility to protect the wellbeing of players, coaches, fans and the wider community, and will not hesitate to take a safety-first approach to our operations over coming months.”

Changes in major cricket action

Meanwhile, England Cricket Board decided to postpone all its tournaments during the domestic ones. No cricket will be run by the ECB till May 28. Even Sri Lanka Cricket took the same call. On the other hand, major series like India v South Africa ODIs, Australia v New Zealand ODIs, Sri Lanka v England Tests and the Australia women’s tour of South Africa among others. Several domestic tournaments have been affected too.

The start of the Indian Premier League postponed to April 15. Based on the further assessment the BCCI will take a call on the same. Reports earlier suggested that the IPL might travel abroad again and also be organized between July and September. In case of that international schedule needs to be checked and thing must be managed accordingly.
