Australia to miss Pat Cummins in the third Test against India

Pat Cummins will not be returning to India for the third Test match of the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy. On Friday he revealed the news saying he would be staying with his family at this moment. Reportedly his mother is not well and in palliative care.

Cummins not returning soon

Cummins had returned home after the second Test match against India in Delhi and was expected to return ahead of the third Test match in Indore. But now, according to the Cricket.com.au Cummins would not be returning to play the Third match. He said, “I have decided against returning to India at this time as my mother is ill and in palliative care. I feel I am best being here with my family.” Cummins further added, “I appreciate the overwhelming support I have received from Cricket Australia and my team-mates. Thanks for your understanding.”

Australia to miss a few members

In Cummins’ absence, Steve Smith will be leading the side in Indore. So far, Smith has stood in for Cummins twice in Test matches since the latter started captaining Australia. Smith captained Australia from 2014 to 2018 in as many as 34 Tests. Then he was handed over the vice-captaincy role in 2021.

Australia team is already without Josh Hazlewood and David Warner. Both had returned home following injuries. Ashton Agar is also not part of the series anymore as he had to return for a different reason. Now this is going to be another huge blow for Australia who are 0-3 behind already in the series. Mitchell Starc is expected to lead the pace attack for Australia in Indore. He is expected to recover from his finger injury.
