Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who represented Team India, said that after their disastrous Adelaide 2020–21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy performance, then-head coach Ravi Shastri organized a team supper with music. The first Test of the four-match series between Australia and India was held at Adelaide.

Ashwin reminisced about the evening following the humiliating first Test loss and commended Shastri’s efforts to invigorate the players’ spirits in an interview with Vimal Kumar on his YouTube channel, as cited by India Today.
The team led by Virat Kohli faced up against the hosts and took a commanding 53-run first-inning advantage. But things did not take long to go wrong for India, as they were bowled out in the second innings for less than 22 overs, their lowest Test score ever.With eight wickets remaining, the Australians won the series 1-0 and needed just 90 runs to win. After the first Test, Virat Kohli left for personal reasons, and Ajinkya Rahane led the team for the remainder of the series.
Recalling the time, Ashwin said “We were not thinking about a series win because we were just bowled out for 36. The mood in the dressing room was a bit down. Ravi Bhai organized a team dinner. He arranged for karaoke, and he started singing. He sang old Hindi songs. Everybody joined in,” said Ashwin.
“We were in a bubble, and Virat was also getting ready to return. We were just focussing on doing well in the next Test in Melbourne. We kept small targets.”
