Arrest warrant issued against Mohammed Shami, BCCI yet to take action

While Mohammed Shami is busy showing his skills in the West Indies, an arrest warrant has been issued against him. According to the Alipore Court in West Bengal, he has to surrender within 15 days and apply for bail.

The Backstory

Mohammed Shami was accused of domestic violence in early 2018. Shami and his brother were booked for domestic violence under IPC Section 498A. Since then Mohammed Shami did not appear before court following which the ACJM gave the order.
Shami, following the entire episode, said in an interview that he did not care for any allegations and wanted to focus on cricket only. “I hope everything remains fine. Whatever is the outcome, I am ready to face it. Cricket life mein hai to sab kuch hai (cricket remains everything in life). That is the only thing I am bothered about. I don’t care about the allegations or what will happen eventually. Right now, I am not thinking even zero per cent about it. I won’t let it affect me.”

Board Shows Faith

Shami, one of finest contemporary Indian bowlers currently is busy in West Indies playing the final Test match of the series. Recently he reached the landmark of 150 wickets in his 42nd Test match at Sabina Park. This news is no matter a shock to the whole Indian cricket fraternity. But fortunately, the BCCI has still not taken any step against the bowler.

Indian cricket board shared that no action will be taken against the cricketer until the board officials see the charge sheet. As per an IANS report, a BCCI functionary has said “Yes, we do understand that an arrest warrant has been issued. But don’t really see us getting involved in this at this point in time. Once we see the charge sheet, we can decide how things stand and if the BCCI constitution calls for any action. But at this point in time, I would say it is too early to take a call on the matter.”
