Another record-breaking day for Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli and records are two sides of the same coin. Indian captain who was looking an ODI hundred since last five months finally managed to smash a brilliant one against West Indies in the second match on Sunday. In the process, he went to break two massive records and cross to legends.

Kohli surpasses Miandad

Virat Kohli broke former Pakistani batsman Javed Miandad’s record for most runs in One-day Internationals against West Indies. His 120 off 125 in the second match of the ongoing ODI series against West Indies at Trinidad helped him to achieve this feat surpassing Miandad. Miandad had scored 1930 runs in 64 innings against West Indies. The Indian skipper took only 34 innings to record this achievement to his name. Miandad’s last innings against the Caribbean nation came way back in 1993 which means Kohli achieved a magnificent deed by breaking a 26-year-old record.

The 30-year old didn’t get the chance to bat in the first ODI as the match was washed out. However, he needed just 19 runs to break this record in the second ODI, and he did that with ease. Kohli has scored seven centuries and 10 fifties in ODIs against the West Indies so far at a staggering average of over 70. Miandad, on the other hand, had scored one century and 12 fifties against West Indies.

Kohli beats Ganguly

In another record-breaking journey, Virat Kohli went on to get past Sourav Ganguly, former Indian captain. He became the second-highest run-getter for India in ODIs. Sourav Ganguly scored 11363 runs in 311 ODIs whereas the current Indian captain has surpassed Ganguly in 238th game to add 11406 runs under his name. Moreover, Kohli is now only behind the legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar in the Indian list of most ODI run-scorers list. The overall list has although a total of seven huge names from the cricket world ahead of Kohli.

Ganguly, after Kohli’s brilliant knock, took to Twitter and posted, “Virat Kohli another master class in one day cricket @imVkohli @BCCI .. what a player.”
