West Indies fast bowler Anderson Phillip is set to return to Lancashire for the first four months of the 2025 County season. Phillip, who played a crucial role in Lancashire’s campaign at the end of last season, will participate in 11 County Championship matches and the T20 Blast group stage.
Anderson Phillip’s Goals for the 2025 Season
Phillip expressed his excitement about rejoining Lancashire, stating,
“I really enjoyed my spell with Lancashire at the end of last season and I am excited by the opportunity to return for the 2025 season to spend a longer period of time at Emirates Old Trafford,” Phillip said.
“Helping Lancashire return to Division One at the first time of asking is my number one priority for next season and hopefully I can put in the performances with the ball which can help the team to achieve that.
“The standard of first-class cricket in England is high and as close as you can get to playing Test cricket, so I am looking forward to being back next summer, continuing to test myself in those conditions, learning and improving my game.”
He also highlighted the high standard of first-class cricket in England, which he believes closely resembles the challenges of Test cricket. This opportunity, he says, will aid his growth and refinement as a player.
Having played two Tests and five ODIs for the West Indies, Phillip has a wealth of experience. His performances in English conditions last season showcased his ability to adapt and thrive, and he is eager to build on that success.
Lancashire’s Expectations from Phillip
Mark Chilton, Lancashire’s director of cricket performance, praised Phillip for his contributions during the 2024 season and emphasized the club’s goal to strengthen its bowling attack. Chilton remarked,
“Dale [Benkenstein] and I have continually spoken about our desire to add further pace to our bowling attack as we look to win more red-ball matches. We know that Anderson will offer that, and he has the added bonus of familiarity with our environment.
ILT20 2025 to Begin on January 11 Amid a Busy T20 Cricket Calendar
“Anderson displayed a really good attitude during his time with us and we believe that he has all the right attributes for a fast bowler – with room to still grow and improve his game. We are looking forward to working with Anderson again next season and helping him to push on and achieve his international ambitions.”
The team’s management sees Phillip as a key player for their campaign to secure promotion back to Division One. With his pace, skill, and determination, Phillip is expected to make significant contributions in both the red-ball format and the T20 Blast.
Phillip’s signing aligns with Lancashire’s strategy to bolster their squad with impactful overseas players. The club is optimistic about his ability to perform under pressure and lead the attack effectively.
