In the recent ODI clash between India and Australia in Mohali, former India batter Aakash Chopra had high praise for Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill for their outstanding opening partnership. Chopra sees this partnership as a promising glimpse of India’s future in batting.

Impressive Technique and Correct Batting

Chopra, known for his cricket analysis, shared his thoughts on his YouTube channel, emphasising the technical prowess displayed by Gaikwad and Gill. He noted, “Ruturaj Gaikwad gets very few opportunities. His chances will be few and far in between till Rohit Sharma is playing and Shubman Gill is there with him. If someone is injured or rested, he could get an opportunity. When Ruturaj and Shubman were batting, it seemed like the future of India was batting. Both are correct batters and are easy on the eye. They don’t play agricultural shots or manufacture strokes.”

Chopra was particularly impressed by Shubman Gill, describing his performance as “absolutely sensational” and highlighting the dominant manner in which he batted during the match.

A Strong Opening Partnership

During the match, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill formed a remarkable opening partnership, adding 142 runs for the first wicket in just 24.1 overs. Gaikwad showcased his skill with 10 boundaries on his way to scoring 71 runs off 77 balls, while Gill played a thrilling innings, smashing six fours and two sixes on his way to a 74 off 63 balls. Both batsmen were eventually dismissed by leg-spinner Adam Zampa.

Although India faced a momentary challenge, slipping to 185/4 during the chase, skipper KL Rahul (58* off 63) and Suryakumar Yadav (50 off 49) stepped up to secure victory for the hosts with an 80-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
