Suresh Raina to replace Ambati Rayudu for the England tour

Ambati Rayudu was earlier named in the Indian ODI squad for the England tour but he has been omitted now as he failed the mandatory yo-yo fitness test. It is customary to pass the test to find a place in the national team but unfortunately, Rayudu couldn’t get over the test held at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

It must be really disheartening for the right-handed batsman as he was in a terrific form in this year’s IPL. Playing for Chennai Super Kings, he played some outstanding knocks that also included a century. Due to his exploits in the league, he was selected again for the Indian ODI team.

But the Indian selectors leave no stone unturned in trying to ensure a completely fit team. It’s a regulation for quite some time that a player has to pass the yo-yo test to be considered for selection without exceptions. Rayudu’s career could have taken a massive rise with the Indian stint but now he will have to wait a little longer for his chances.

Raina to replace Rayudu

As his replacement, Suresh Raina has been called in. The left-hander had scored 445 runs in the IPL 2018 as opposed to 602 by Rayudu. CSK won the league quite comfortably in the end and Raina showed some good form. Even though he didn’t play a massive role in team’s success but he was as consistent as ever.

Raina was already named in the T20I squad for the England tour on the back of impressive outings on the South Africa T20Is earlier this year. But a place in the ODI squad is a comeback of sorts for the 31-year-old as he had last featured in an ODI in October 2015. With some good performances in England, he could well cement his place in the side for the 2019 World Cup which is to be played in the same country.
