It’s been a week where the cricket lovers have been treated to one announcement after the other of biopics being declared on Indian cricketers. First, it was Indian women’s team’s pacer Jhulan Goswami and then, it was the legendary Kapil Dev whose life will be portrayed on the silver screen. The latest to join the list is Indian women’s team’s skipper Mithali Raj.

The Viacom18 Motion Pictures has reportedly announced the biopic of the 34-year-old and her cricketing career will be rolled out to the theatres soon. The rights for the movie have been seized by the studio that has been known for the movies like Queen, Mary Kom, and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag that earned heaps of success.

Mithali Raj has been a stalwart for Indian women’s cricket. She has led the side to 2 World Cup finals in 2005 and 2017 and is also the leading run-getter in women’s ODI cricket. The right-hander expressed her joy over the announcement and hopes that her journey inspires the young girls of the country to take up sports.

“I am extremely happy with this association with Viacom18 Motion Pictures. Hoping that this movie inspires more people especially young girls to take up sports as a career,” Mithali Raj quoted.

The studio that will showcase the movie mentioned that they have always been presenting woman-centric movies and with the addition of Mithali’s biopic, it will add to an already elite list of movies.

“Viacom18 Motion Pictures has always been the pioneer in showcasing content with the portrayal of strong women characters right from ‘Queen’ to ‘Kahaani’ to ‘Mary Kom’,” quoted Ajit Andhare, COO, Viacom18 Motion Pictures.

Medallin Sports acted as the facilitator between Mithali Raj and the Viacom18. Its Director hailed Mithali’s contribution for the game and hopes her story will motivate several generations to come.

“Mithali remains to be an inspiration for multitudes for many years now and her story on the silver screen will keep motivating generations,” mentioned Varun Chopra who is the Director of the Medallin Sports.
